Remembering Great Great Grandpa White

We're so glad we had the opportunity to see our Great and (Great-Great) Grandpa at his 102nd birthday party. That was the last time my family and I got to see and talk with him. It came as a relief when I got the message he had passed away Sunday morning (Feb. 17th). I'll miss him. He was my last surviving grandparent. But I'm happy he's in a better place and not sick and uncomfortable any more. He's with all those who have gone on before.

I have so many memories of him....

I remember being in Las Vegas and he was the sacrament speaker. They let him talk and talk about his life. I remember it lasted forever, but that it was so interesting I could have listened even longer.

I remember how much heart he put into everything he did. He never just sat around waiting for something to find him. He went and found something to do.

I remember his yard was so beautiful! I remember seeing different stones he'd cut and polished and turned into jewelry. I remember seeing the machines he made...just because he saw one and said...hey, I can make that so he did!

I remember his jumping in the pool and swimming with all the great grandkids. He was pretty old then, but he still jumped in the water and swam with us!

I remember visiting him when I was awfully little. I always loved going to visit him because it was never boring. He always had something to share. Usually something he made.

I remember as he stood by his daughter (my Grandma Marley) as she lay sick with cancer and held her hand and talked to her in her last days speaking words of comfort to her.

I remember his passion for life. And not letting a day slip by without being grateful he had it.

I'm grateful to him for the memories he shared with me. For the wonderful example of what we can and should be.... Strong in the gospel, and Faithful till the end.

We will treasure those knitted caps he made. And use them as a reminder of the legacy he's left us.

God Be With You Till We Meet Again

We Love You

I Got Tagged!

How long have you been married?

9 yrs and almost 11 months (our 10th anniversary is march 20th)

How long did you date?

We were "introduced" at a group date on Aug. 11th before he left for his mission (Sept. 20th '95). Wrote letters the entire 2 yrs, and then once he came home (sept. 26th '97) dated for almost exactly 6 months before we were married in the Salt Lake Temple

How old is he?

He is almost 32

Who eats more?

That depends on what we're eating. He typically orders the salad...I get the cheeseburger :S We used to have contests. I had to quit doing that once I started getting bigger...and he stayed the same. He will usually eat a little more than me in a meal.

Who said "I love you" first?

Good question...It could've been me...but then again...it could've been him. It would've been about 12 yrs ago when it was first said though...

Who is taller?

He is by about 4 inches

Who sings better?

Well he'll hands down say me...however...he's been told by some music majors that he has a GREAT voice and that he should actually use it! He still adamantly denies it!

Who is smarter?

Well, this is actually a trick question! He asks me for technical smarts like grammar, etc. But I think he still gets off being smarter in an overall sense. I like Joel and Linda's way of saying it! That fits here too!

Whose temper is worse?

I think my temper is. But we both have our moments of losing our wits.

Who does the laundry?

I wash most of it. However...if he wants something specific...usually his workout clothes, he does those.

Who does the dishes?

We both try to do the dishes equally. He helps out quite a bit in the kitchen. Mopping is his chore!

Who sleeps on the right side of the bed?

I always sleep on the "door" side of the bed. I am the one who gets up for kids in the middle of the night if/when needed, and it's easier for me to be near the door...besides...he's my protector! I need him to be by the window for those scary shadows!

Who pays the bills?

Oh that is SO my job! We'd be lost if I didn't keep track of that!

Who mows the lawn?

He does! I've done it a few times. 1/2 an acre is a big yard to mow, and he does a magnificent job of it! (granted our yard isn't pretty grass...it's weeds that look like grass!)

Who cooks dinner?

it goes in rounds...
He'll do dinner, I'll do dinner...it really depends on his schedule. Lately, I fix dinner more than he does...but he's no stranger to the kitchen. Quite often he's in there working side by side till the meal is done and on the table.

Who drives when you are together?

Mostly him. Because my driving makes him nervous... :D

Who is more stubborn?

We're both just as stubborn. I think we both give in just as equally too.

Who is the first to admit when they are wrong?

I usually don't need to cuz I'm right...but when I am wrong, I'll admit it.

Whose parents do you see the most?

Neither. Out here in TN, we only see family on vacation, and then our time is usually split but it tends to be more his parents because that's where we usually stay when we're in town. Come visit us, you'll see us more!!!

Who proposed?

He did. Conference Sunday October 5th 1997. He looked at me while we were sitting just outside the East gates of Temple square. He looked at me and said..."I just decided I want to marry you!" To which I quickly replied..."You just decided this?" He gave me the ring on November 15th in the Joseph Smith Memorial Building overlooking the Temple and he said," Isn't the temple so beautiful? It'll be even more beautiful seeing this on your finger when we're inside being sealed!" Then he opened the ring box and there was my ring! I gave him a big "tight" hug and said "Of Course!" quickly followed by "I Love You"

Who has more friends?

He would say I do. But that's only cuz when we were in UT and out doing our shopping or whatever...I'd always see somebody I knew. I think he does though cuz I don't get out of the house for much of anything anymore, and he's out at work etc.

Who has more siblings?

Me. He has 2 I have 5!

Who wears the pants in the family?

It really depends on what the job is. I have things I do, and he has things that he does. It's very equal in my point of view though.

Over the years Mike and I have watched others around us and taken notes of what we liked and didn't like in other marriages etc. We have found that selfishness never gets you very far, and is one of the most damaging things in a relationship. Once we made it a goal of ours to do our best to think of the other one first, life got better! For instance...we look at his job as our job, and we use our instead of mine. I am so grateful for a supporting husband. And as much as it gets old to hear...it's the truth, that "as long as you're still holding hands, you're never too far apart!"

I LOVE YOU BABE!!!

We've had a great 10 years....Let's keep it going!

Metta is Brave!!!

Today, Metta had a well child check up with her doctor. We had to make sure we got to the doctors about 30 min. before our appointment...just to update insurance. She and Emalee were so FABULOUS!!! It made my job so easy. From that office we headed down the hall to her doctor's office. There was a line to check in. (around here...that never happens!) Metta and Ema sat and watched tv in the waiting room, and didn't cause any trouble. the wait was 35-40 min. Through it all, not a complaint or a problem from either of the girls.
I felt bad that when they did finally call us back, both the girls were so into watching Dora the Explorer, and had to get up and miss the rest of it. But even with that, they never complained or whined or anything!

Merryetta got back to the room took her shoes off and went out to the scales. She weighed 41 lbs, and was 42" long! The nurse came into the room and took her blood pressure by "hugging" her arm. Metta went on to tell her about the toy she has at home that does that. (so cute!) Metta also talked to the nurse and told her about the stethoscope we had at home that she played with. Then the wait for the doctor...

We played games like head shoulders knees and toes...peekaboo..put the puzzle together...play with the toys...read all the books...thank goodness the doctor came in when he did, because I was running out of ideas to keep them occupied!

The doctor came in and looked in her ears, eyes, and mouth. He told her she's been doing a good job of brushing her teeth. Then he told her to breath in and out so he could hear her lungs/heart. He was all praise! He talked to me about her growth chart..and said she can expect to be around 5'8" if she keeps going the way she has been. Not too much of a surprise there. She is currently in the 90th percentile for height, and the 80th percentile for weight. Not bad for a baby that was preemie!
Then he made Metta kick her legs and feet, and her fingers dance by testing her reflexes. She thought that was quite funny. All week long she's been talking about whether or not she'll be getting shots. I just kept telling her, I don't know you might, and you might not! The doctor said she was all caught up on vaccinations...but if we wanted to jump-start them for next year (kindergarten) now would be a good time. I told the doctor we'd leave the choice to Metta. I explained that she could have no shots today and then get 4 next time, or have 2 today and 2 next time...possibly only one. She chose to get 2 today and 1 or 2 next time insisting they were only baby shots and she could do that! The nurse came in all prepared for her to be fussy and mad..nope...Metta just said owie...and looked at the spot on her arm...SO BRAVE!!! The nurse said...I wish everybody were this easy to give shots to. It would make my day so much easier.
So, to sum it all up, I'm having a proud mommy moment...
ok moment's gone...time to get back to the dishes in the sink!

PS..Since they were SOOO extremely good during the long 2 hr event, I took them out to lunch! cuz they deserved it(...and I didn't want to fix lunch when I got home!)
